the cover

  • 1 Cover Straps

A term used in the cotton weaving districts to denote the " cover " straps or kicking straps of a loom which are fixed with the object of improving the " cover " on the cloth, and eliminating reed marks as far as possible. The appliance comprises a connection from the sley cap to the front lease rod, arranged as that as the sley moves to its front centre it tugs at the cover straps and so slightly raises the front lease rod. This has the effect of momentarily slackening the warp threads, enabling them to overcome the tendency to run together in pairs, and to close up the gaps made by the reed wires.

  • 3 Cover

By " cover of cloth " is meant the full uniform appearance that all plain goods should have, in which all ends and picks are spread equidistant from each other. A well-covered cloth is the opposite to a " reedy " cloth, which shows the ends in pairs. A reedy cloth when bad is often called " grinny." A reedy cloth can be caused by careless weaving, a fault that can be stopped if the loom is properly set. " Reediness " is most difficult to remove when the cloth has insufficient ends to spread out evenly.

    HR
a letter sent to a potential employer together with a résumé. It is used when a jobseeker knows the exact position he or she is applying for, and the name of the person to whom the résumé is being sent. A cover letter is important because it is the first thing the hiring manager will read, and is key to them forming their first impression of the jobseeker. It must, therefore, be wellpresented, well-informed, concise, professional, and yet enthusiastic.

  • 20 dividend cover

    Fin
the number of times a company’s dividends to ordinary shareholders could be paid out of its net after-tax profits. This measures the likelihood of dividend payments being sustained, and is a useful indication of sustained profitability.
    EXAMPLE
If the figure is 3, a firm’s profits are three times the level of the dividend paid to shareholders.
Dividend cover is calculated by dividing earnings per share by the dividend per share:
Earnings per share/dividend per share = dividend cover
If a company has earnings per share of $8, and it pays out a dividend of 2.1, dividend cover is:
    8/2.1 = 3.80
An alternative formula divides a company’s net profit by the total amount allocated for dividends. So a company that earns $10 million in net profit and allocates $1 million for dividends has a dividend cover of 10, while a company that earns $25 million and pays out $10 million in dividends has a dividend cover of 2.5:
    10,000,000/1,000,000 = 10 and 25,000,000/ 10,000,000 = 2.5
A dividend cover ratio of 2 or higher is usually adequate, and indicates that the dividend is affordable. A dividend cover ratio below 1.5 is risky, and a ratio below 1 indicates a company is paying the current year’s dividend with retained earnings from a previous year: a practice that cannot continue indefinitely. On the other hand, a high dividend cover figure may disappoint an investor looking for income, since the figure suggests directors could have declared a larger dividend.
